Friday…
7:00 am: Arrived in Seattle after surviving half-sleep in cramped coach. Grabbed extra large quad-shot white mocha and headed out to catch cab.
8:00 am: Got to Dave’s apartment, where thankfully he didn’t forget to leave key. Made friends with kitty, passed out on couch while watching the Style Network.
2:00 pm: Dave got home from work! Much woohooing and “When-do-we-start-drinking?”-ing.
3:00 pm: Grand tour of Dave’s ship, complete with akward stairs and even more akward Coast Guard boys. Heh.
5:00 pm: Hit the bars! Triangle, Owl ‘n’ Thistle, and Kell’s (where fab Irish band St. James Gate was playing), followed by a game of pool at Rascal’s Casino, where I somehow managed to crack my knuckle open. Yech.
2:00 am: Hit the sack. Ooooh, so much booze…. *zzzzzzzzzzz”
Saturday…
8:00 am: Oh god, where is the toilet? *HOARKHOARKDRYHEAVEWATERWATERWATERHOARK*
10:00 am: *zzzzzzzzzzzz*
3:00 pm: Rested, refreshed, ready for more.
5:00 pm: Dinner at Red Robin on the waterfront, walked around town a bit, picked up some treasures at Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie.
8:00 pm: Headed back to Dave’s apartment to clean up for the Dressy Bessy show!
10:00 pm: Ballard is a neat part of Seattle, next time I go I’m definitely going to check it out in more detail. We made our way over to The Sunset Tavern and I immedietely zoned in on the merchandise table, where I bought every Dressy Bessy cd I didn’t already have, a tee shirt, a tote bag, and also got several buttons and stickers for being such a “devoted fan”.
John Hill was sitting next to the guy selling stuff and I felt like such a dork.
First up was Tennis-Pro, which I wasn’t paying enough attention to to notice if they were good or not. Dave and I were too busy checking out the bar and watching for Tammy Ealom.
11:00 pm: We made our way to the front of the crowd, right in front of the stage. I came 34727898 miles, I wasn’t going to settle for no measly second-best place to watch, dernit! The Jessica Fletchers started setting up, but we didn’t know if they had played already or not, so there was some discussion as to whether this was a band who was utilizing DB’s equipment, or Tammy’s harem of sexy, skinny rock-n-roll roadies. For the record, they ROCKED. Plus, they’re from Norway, so they had cute accents. Rowr! The lead singer looked a lot like Malcolm McDowell from his Clockwork Orange era, but in a good way.
12:00 am: DB started setting up. I went up to Tammy and said hello, blahblahblah. Basically made a huge-ass doof out of myself. She was super fucking nice. It’s always awesome when people you admire so much meet your expectations. And seriously? They blew me away live. It was one of the best shows I’d ever seen. Afterwards, Dave took a picture of me & Tammy, which I’ll post along with other assorted pictures from my first Seattle adventure, as soon as I get them developed. We hung out until the bar was closing up, chatting with people and actually spent a bit of time hanging out with Rob Greene, who was very flirty-flirty. He was smoking a pipe and was completely charming. He gave me a copy of their latest album on vinyl to take home with me, I mean how cool is that?
I was beaming all the way back to Dave’s apartment.
Sunday…
Compared to the rest of my weekend, Sunday was mellow and uneventful. We walked around downtown some more, had a couple beers and that was that. I will definitely be going back for more, sooner than later. If you get the chance, go see The Jessica Fletchers or Dressy Bessy, you’ll totally have a rockin’ time. Wee!
